![]() I'm not sure how much of it was critical path and how much of it was because I spent so much damn time exploring, but I felt like they were brought up often enough to the point where Ned being involved was something in the back of my mind for a while.įrom podcasts they've been on it seems like Campo Santo knew that the ending would be divisive because it's not the kind of story often told, but to me that's always been the whole point of the game. I played about 7 hours over the course of three nights and felt like I was familiar enough with Ned and Brian long before the body reveal to have that moment hit home for me. ![]() It's not perfect, but honestly it's a marvel of creation with one of the better stories and endings that was well worth the price of admission, I just wish they didn't abandon the single player for online (which I've never even tried because I'm not interested) and Rockstar also abandoned the phone app that was actually really cool to use as a map, but that feature no longer works.I mean I've said it before but I disagree with people who think that the Ned and Brian stuff came out of nowhere. ![]() However, it's one of the only games that has ever made me cry when I lost my beloved horse, Isabel at the end, like it did for many at that point. And the controls can be frustrating and clunky. Rockstar makes incredible games but eventually you start to notice the strings and it becomes less immersive and a little tedious. Once I had explored and exhausted all the mechanics of the game and basically started to see all its limitations and repetitions, it felt a bit less real and dynamic. Yes very much so but I will say I liked it better when it was new? I've only played through it once and didn't finish the prologue before playing it again to about 50% and now when I fire it up I just ride around for a bit and play poker or blackjack, I don't really play the missions because they get a little too "videogame-y". You go down this rabbit hole with them into delusion only to have cold, sobering reality disappoint you just as it did them, but that's what's so great about it. They all denied reality and it had negative consequences that they ultimately had to face anyways and only left them in a bigger quandary than if they had just been more honest and mature about their circumstances from the beginning. ![]() All 3 characters did this to one extent or another. It's about how people run away from their problems and create fictional problems they can't solve instead of confronting the real ones. If you're expecting some kind of larger than life reveal at the end about there really being some kind of real over the top conspiracy, you've missed the point of the story. The game also possess some of the best and most believable voice acting between two characters ever made. They're more about the indescribable connection between the main characters and the tension they create as well as the overall atmosphere of the setting than a grand ending. If you had a blast for hours how is that a waste of $20? Even if you have an hourly rate of just $10/hour and you got 2 hours of enjoyment, then you've broken even.
